New Year Novelist Contest

by Lindsay 11/12/2008 6:58:00 PM

As the year comes to a close, and our affiliation with NovelStorm.com comes to fruition we begin our search for a NEW YEAR NOVELIST.

Have you always dreamed of becoming a published author? Pull out that manuscript that has been collecting dust in a drawer, that hasn’t yet been picked up by a publisher, finish up the final touches or just write one, because now is your chance.

We are giving the opportunity to three aspiring, unpublished writers to become published authors.  This contest can launch the career of three talented writers and introduce the world to many others.   These three talented authors will also receive a Sony e-Reader, which will include the top ten manuscripts from the NEW YEAR NOVELIST contest.

Best of Luck!

Poetry Dances ~ Read Request

by Lindsay 11/3/2008 6:18:00 PM

You may notice the little yellow button underneath the share button on the Poetry writings.  This button is for a read request for PoetryDances.com.  PoetryDances.com is a poetry site where readers and writers can find links to great poems throughout the internet.  Writers can submit original poetry directly to PoetryDances.com or send them read requests to review their work in the hopes of being added to PoetryDances.  Although they are looking for all sorts of poetry, there does seem to be a pattern of sorts with those they tend to chose.  Their editors tend to prefer work that is not to 'rhymey', and appear to lean towards the thoughts of people laid down for what they are-rather than one line blending in sounds with another.  Not that there is anything wrong with that type of poetry and you are welcome to submit that, too. We are excited to have added a button that makes sending PoetryDances a read request quick and easy.

We are thrilled to have such a strong and beneficial alliance with another writing site that is truly dedicated to helping writers reach their full potential.   Both sites have the same mission: to help emerging writers.  It is because of this we feel that adding this "PoetryDances~Read Request" button is just a value added feature to WritingRoom.

It is more than just us that is excited about our new found friendship.  Check out this snipet of kind words from PoetryDances latest press release:

Six new favorite writers were created in October on PoetryDances.com, in a month which saw an important new arrangement with WritingRoom.com come into effect.  Month after month, new writers and new poems are discovered by PoetryDances.com during its visits to other poetry sites, and blogs across the internet.  Poems are often submtitted to the Site directly.  A proportion of the writers behind these poems are listed as Favorite Writers on the Site.  Also, in a new and significant advance, WritingRoom.com has agreed to incorporate a 'read request' link back to Poetry Dances.com, alongside all poems written and hosted on its webiste.  These links offer to all writers of poetry on WritingRoom.com, an easier method of submitting their poems to PoetryDances.com for review and possible selection.

In recent comments about this new arrangment, Anthony French, the creator of PoetryDances.com explained: "We are very pleased to be working so closely with WritingRoom.com-we see the Site as one of the most vibrant, friendly and accessible out there.  Additionally the standard of poems reaching us from the Site is highly impressive.  This may be in part down to the broad array of 'expert' guidance made available to its members.  In offering this guidance to help writers develop and improve their craft across so many areas, Writingroom.com has presented itself as a truly excellent partner.  We are confident that the read requests coming from WritingRoom.com will steadily grow with time; bringing increased exposure for its writers along with the two sites themselves.  We look forward to finding and working with other poetry sites to offer such a great platform to their members."

I highly encourage all poets to click on the "PoetryDances ~ Read Request" button.  The more eyes on your work the more chances for success and the pure satisfaction of being read.

November Discovered Author: Janice Haskins-Scott

by Lindsay 11/2/2008 11:48:00 PM

Janice Haskins-Scott's collection of poetry was just the type of exemplary kind of bold writing we were looking to publish for our November Discovered Author.  Her collection of poems is now available in her new book, INSPIRATIONAL EVERYDAY POETRY- POETRY THAT INSPIRES.  Staggeringly insightful and profoundly personal, Janice courageously reveals, with poetic precision, stories and sides of herself that inspire and move by artfulness.

INSPIRATIONAL EVERYDAY POETRY is a kaleidoscope of poetry and passion that scales the everday possibilities and daily struggles with equal sensitivity, lyricism, intelligence and humor.  Having defeated a twenty-four year long drug and alcohol addiction, Janice has overcome a broken spirit by discovering the powers of her mind, understanding that hopelessness and discouragement could be squashed by wisdom and knowledge, transforming her inhibitions into strengths, and understanding that her past has prepared her for her future.  Janice has become a success, a self-taught writer who now lives her life substance-free and dedicated to fulfilling her life.

Janice has had some success as a writer before being chosen as WritingRoom's Discvoered Author:  In 2004, she was nominated as Poet of the year by the International Society of Poets.  In November 2007, she completed and published through Xlibris Publishing, her first poetry book, REFLECTIONS OF A WARRIOR - UNDERSTANDING SUBSTANCE ABUSE RECOVERY THROUGH POETRY, and a novel entitled, MISPLACED. She has been named one of the best poets of the year by the International Library of Poetry, for the years 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007and 2008.

INSPIRATIONAL EVERYDAY POETRY- POETRY THAT INSPIRES, is available at PublishingRoom.com, Amazon.com and other online retailers.  Buy it now and be inspired!

Remember~ We are continuously searching all the writings here at WritingRoom to find our next Discovered Author.  We are looking for a fabulous collection of poems and short stories, or a great novel.  Keep writing and keep posting, you could be our next Discovered Author!
